What is a Charrette? - A Charrette is a multiple-day, collaborative design and planning workshop held on-site and inclusive of all affected stakeholders. They are intensive and highly interactive.

Our 5-day Charrette involves our consultants on the project; a multi-disciplinary team that includes representation in urban design, land use planning, transportation planning, architecture, and landscape design. The overall goal of the Charrette is to generate ideas, solve problems, and develop creative solutions in a short period of time that will result in consensus around decisions and objectives to be included in the East End Small Area Plan.

Stages of the Charrette

At this event, participants will gain a complete understanding of the project, its study area, initial goals and objectives, and the key planning principles associated with the project. The presentation will be followed with an interactive, hands-on workshop, different from the past October workshop (for those who attended).

Provides members of the community the opportunity to circulate through the Charrette studio to observe the team in action. Attendees can also review and give feedback to the team on the design and planning work in progress.

Informal plan review processes in which members of the Charrette team present and debate their work with their peers. The Charrette process is an iterative process; each pin-up represents an evolution of the previous one that ultimately results in a preferred plan.

The culmination of many days of hard work by the design team and stakeholders. At this event, the team will describe and summarize the proceedings from each day of the Charrette and provide a comprehensive presentation of the preferred plan and next steps. An open forum discussion will follow this presentation.
